As
PoE-powered IoT networks expand around the world, more and more power-consuming devices are born.
Unfortunately, the PoE standard like IEEE 802.3at is only applicable to low-power devices with up to
30W of power through Ethernet, which limits the power available for smart networks and devices. The
good news is that the latest standard IEEE 802.3bt (60/90W) extends the use of PoE in new
applications. |

What
Equipment Needs The IEEE 802.3bt PoE? |
|
|
|
|
The
building owners or managers can save significant amounts of energy by using IEEE 802.3bt to supply
90W PoE to the LED light. Through this standard, it reduces the minimum standby power (while the
light is off) to 20 mW, which is 10 times better than what other existing standards allow (200 mW).
Due to the safety of PoE, it also ensures a safe installation and use of LED light. |

The
camera is the equipment adopted PoE technology earlier, which is widely used in the safe city. The
initial surveillance system is simple and static with low power consumption. However, with the
development of technology, the cameras would be integrated with power-consuming components to
realize more functions, these can’t be driven by the energy in IEEE 802.3af/at, the high-speed
camera is one of them. And this is the reason IEEE 802.3bt is born. Meanwhile, it can reduce
wiring, energy consumption, and maintenance costs for high-speed cameras by using IEEE 802.3bt PoE
technology. |

What
Fields Need The IEEE 802.3bt PoE? |
|
|
● Smart Building |
There
are lots of systems and IP equipment in the smart building, the LED lighting system (Indoor &
outdoor), networking system (AP, router, PC), security system (access control, IP camera, PTZ
camera), sensors (Collect data of environment and occupants), etc. As the backbone of a smart
building, PoE qualifies entire building systems to be smarter, efficient, agile, and
manageable for the occupants. Due to the power requirements of many systems and IP equipment
are more than 30W, the IEEE 802.3bt PoE is needed to drive them, which is compatible with all
IP equipment up to 60/90W. |
